Triple Your Donation By Midnight!

Guest post by Bill Clinton... (Well, it would be, if I asked him! LOL)

I am extremely grateful for your year-end gift. Your support means that we can help even more people around the world achieve their dreams in 2012.

Because I know that you are committed to building a better world, I am hoping you could share the incredible news with your friends and family that a generous donor has stepped up to continue our matching gift campaign and give the Foundation $2 for every $1 donated. That means every online gift will go 3 times as far until midnight tonight.

I hope you will share the news that donations to the Clinton Foundation will be tripled with your family, neighbors, and friends and ask them to join you in supporting our mission.

Our work is only possible because of the generosity of our donors – make sure your friends and family take advantage of this incredible opportunity to have their tax-deductible gift tripled.

Thank you again for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Bill Clinton

Who Moved My Cheese? Revisited.

I just re-read Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson.... Quite brilliant! A good read to examine the old and ring in the new!

I'm getting all new stuff from it at this present stage of life... I'd read it when it came out originally in 1999 or so...

... Particularly about clinging to people, places, things no matter what... "There is always new cheese out there whether you recognize it at the time, or not. And that you are rewarded with it when you go past your fear and enjoy the adventure."

And then there's my ongoing mantra that "people change" and some people's abhorrent disgust with that concept....

The other thing that strikes me is how the entire financial paradigm has shifted... No longer can we rely on pensions and "nose to the grindstone" as a guarantee of life long success and security...

It's all quite fascinating.... And horrifying and challenging, and enlightening... and simple. Oh my!

How will YOU change your methods in the New Year....?

As for me... I'll be more aware to:

"Be ready to change quickly and enjoy it again and again"

Here are some great quotes from Spencer Johnson.

The Big Cheese

Was at a high falutin celebrity holiday party recently and got to talking to the cheese man from Murray's Cheese Shop.

He's responsible for managing the cheese cellar where they age their cheeses. He's also quite the cheese connoisseur...

He directed me toward a special cheese on the cheese tray...

Cabot Cloth Bound Cheddar

You chip it off...

It's dry and magical...

An explosive sharp bite at first... Followed by a cooling and creamy after-taste...

I woulda walked right by it....

Perfectly paired with a fig jam... On a cracker...

Multiply Life By 'The Power of Two'

My brother gave me this CD for Christmas...

The Power of Two (Released: November 3, 2009, Qualiton Imports, Harbinger Records)

These two guys make a fine musical combination...

Michael Feinstein, 55, and Cheyenne Jackson, 36 bring a classy old world pop style to this CD... Even with the diverse music choices...

It all works due to expert arrangements and recording studio work that makes for a cohesive album of largely upbeat easy listening with a show tune bent...

Favorite cuts: We Kiss in the Sunlight, I'm Nothing Without You, and I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter.

In 2009, Feinstein teamed up with Cheyenne Jackson to create a nightclub act titled "The Power of Two". The show was hailed by the New York Times as "passionate," "impeccably harmonized" and "groundbreaking". Variety acclaimed it as "dazzlingly entertaining". Their act became one of the most critically acclaimed shows of 2009, and the duo created a studio album from the material, The Power of Two. The Power of Two, a concert reuniting Jackson and Feinstein, was presented at Carnegie Hall on October 29, 2010. (Background information from Wikipedia)

list of schools we will be going to next year!

Ok hi guys. I am sooooooo sorry I didn't post anything in a long while but I completely forgot that I had co-authorship to the blog. A lot of things happened since the last time I posted, for example we're already anticipating the new year and I got myself a phone line! Yeah this means I'm contactable now. If anyone wants to know it's 9384XXXX (haha u really think I was going to reveal my whole phone number just like that? No sirree! If you want it though u can email me for it. Email is devesh.logendran@gmail.com) I also got a new Sony Ericsson Live Walkman which I'm typing from right now!! I have to add the HTML code manually because I can't open compose mode on this phone... But you probably don't know what I'm talking about :-p

So anyway, since we're entering the second phase of our childhood -- secondary school -- I decided to compile a list of schools we would be going to next year! Here's what I know so far:
Devesh: Victoria school
Berwyn: School of Science And Technology
Gregory: SST
Leona and Augustine: Xin Min sec
Jia Sheng : North Vista
Rainer: North Vista
kean sin: Nan chiau
Jia Yun, SI En and Wen Xuan: Holy Innocents
Jacques, Ivan and Matthias: Maris Stella
Celine and Jia Lin: Hougang Sec (apparently it's "aweshum")
Maisarah: Bowen Sec
Wen QI: Presbyterian high school
Jonathan: Anglican High
Marianne: Hai Sing Catholic School
Xin Hui: Cedar Girls
Qian Ling: Paya Lebar Methodist Girls School (AAHH autocorrect hell!!)

Christmas Season Blurbing

Michael Buble's Christmas album is very good. I'd given it to my dad for Christmas. He opened it and declared "Oh, Michael Bubble"!

Listening now to Nancy LaMott's "Just in Time for Christmas"... Love(d) her! Michael Feinstein and Nancy's "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is absolutely the best version of that song... Ever... Bar none...

"Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten".
- John Dryden.

Also gave my Dad Tony Bennett's Duets II album... It was a snore to tell you the truth... Even Amy Winehouse's cut couldn't save it...

Rest in Peace Harry Kullijian, he passed just a few days short of his 92nd birthday! Condolences to Carol Channing.

Helldersburg Xmas 2011 recollections: Denny's slam, Roadkill, Nittany's, bathrobe #2, side dishes, Dad's cookies, Mom's bright spirit, apps, Walmart parking lot.

Those little Baltimore rowhouses you can see when passing through on Amtrak are still quite charming... That is, the ones that aren't being bulldozed by the city...

Beautiful orange and blue pre-sunset skies in Helldersburg.

Saw stars in Maryland.

Chelsea Lunch Break: Thai Chai-yo and a Billy's Bakery chaser! Had a free lunch come to my from the Chai Thai Yo frequent flyer program...

"A round man cannot be expected to fit in a square hole right away. He must have time to modify his shape" - Mark Twain

These new Facebook Timeline pages are completely dizzying... I haven't selected them yet for my own page.

"He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has" - Epictetus

Jingle all the way...

"There is only one person who could ever make you happy, and that person is you." - David Burn

Julie Halston returns to Broadway soon into 2012!

"Instant gratification ensures that we will travel in the same vicious circles again and again". - Debbie Ford

Let me just take a moment to express my deep appreciation of Michael Fassbender. Nice pic in Entertainment Weekly Best of 2011 issue. Good work in Shame.

At least you can feel like you did a good job picking something that matches up with his tastes

The After-Christmas Re-Charge...

After the frenetic and intense stretch of work from September til now, I feel like I could stay snug in my warm little apartment for the next month...

Of course... That's not possible.

But I do plan to spend a goodly bit of time in here til I need to return to work next Tuesday...

Scented candles ablaze! (In safety glass containers, of course!)

And Nancy LaMott's Just in Time for Christmas in the background...

Plenty of sweet treats stockpiled in here... Holiday gifts, mostly...

To tell you the truth... A single slice of Tate's coffee cake (and it is extraordinary!) would be just as fulfilling a gift for me as a whole giant coffee cake... So, I concentrate on the pecans and the anti-inflammatory qualities of  the cinnamon spices and pretend it's a health food...

Then, there's the giant tub of Fisher's Popcorn... Ocean City's Finest caramel corn! Gotta make a sincere effort go slow on that! This is Medium... sez my bro... But it's a brown sugar and corn syrup monster to me! Fiber? Sure.

Peace Love Truffles are delightful handcrafted treats... Peanut butter is best in my book... Basil was most interesting... Orange clove was very good, though it doesn't need the orange clove sugar added... and I'm all for the Moroccan Mint sans the mint sugar... Chocolate has Oleic Acid, a healthy monounsaturated fat that's also found in olive oil.

Although a whole tin each of my father's Oatmeal Raisin and Toll House cookies are never enough...

Lapsang Souchong with all.

Set the Tone: Give Sincere Appreciation

Bar makes money by giving away $25 to everyone

well, under certain circumstances at least.

As you can read about over on Consumerist, there was a bar out in Miami that "announced it would pay out $25 credits to every customer in bar on any night the team lost."

And yet they did well (the team and the bar)
"It's great business for us," Todora said. "Our marketing philosophy is that we want to be the loudest kid in the room. It's no secret that Florida is a very fair weather state in terms of their rooting interest of their teams. When the Heat weren't playing well, bars around us were complaining about lack of business. But we retained our customers."

Beyond that, Todora says the average person at the bar spent around $30 on the nights when the Heat played, around 36% more than the average check on a non-game night. So the extra money from those nights helped to defray the costs of the nights when he only netted $5/check.

If it weren't so unsafe for Violet, it would be fun to have more furniture that turned into weapons and armor

but at least once she starts playing with Legos, we will basically have a bunch of caltrops on the floor.

Check it out. Very similar to one of my first ever posts about a table that became a buckler shield and club, here is a coffee table that becomes a riot shield.

Get Lost in Miniatur Wunderland

ATLUS ANNOUNCES GUNGNIR PSP PRE-ORDERS OPEN

Atlus has just announced Gungnir - PSP (Preorder) and pre-orders are now open!

A strategy RPG by the makers of Riviera and Knights In The Nightmare!

Developer Sting has a proud, extensive history of expertly crafted, highly innovative RPGs, having garnered critical acclaim and fan admiration with classics like Riviera, Yggdra Union, and Knights in the Nightmare.

In a land ravaged by disparity where the impoverished must battle for survival, the fate of all is thrust into uncertainty when rebels happen upon custody of a young female noble and a magical spear of immeasurable power falls from the heavens. Now, hunted by incumbent powers desperate to reclaim the girl and armed with a weapon capable of reshaping the realm, the Resistance must wage war to deliver themselves from the tyranny of their oppressors.

Show Comes Down Early

If any of you planned to catch the current Urban Curations exhibition at the Triple X Tattoo studio in Hackney, London I'm afraid to say that the show has already come down. It had to be cut short as Triple X Tattoo are now re-locating to a new studio in Leytonstone, East London.

I popped along this evening to collect my toy tower sculpture, Magnet. As I just live round the corner from the show, at the bottom of the now artistically fashionable Vyner Street and as my sculpture is mounted on wheels I decided to take a gamble and push my work home. It took a while but I as it got home in one piece I now feel reassured by the robustness of its construction. Although having to carry it up three flights of stairs did make me question the logic of simply not taking it back to my studio.

Unfortunately I didn't get to have a proper look at the show before it came down. I missed the opening night as I was still in Miami for Art Basel and since I've been back in the country I've busy trying to sort out a few future projects before the Christmas holidays. One of them is a nine piece screen print box-set in collaboration with the fabulous Mister Remi Rough – but more about that in the New Year.

How to cheat at 3D pinball

Ok, sorry, long delay in posting again. This time, I was on a cruise -- yes, the big, fancy ship kind of cruise. I'm serious. I've got some photo evidence. Really.

Since I've run out of jokes, I decided to post something else -- a tutorial! Which is basically what I am going to do. This post shows you how to use your mouse to control the ball in 3D Pinball - Space Cadet

List of ingredients:
3D Pinball Space Cadet - It comes by default on Windows XP, for Windows Vista and Windows 7 you can download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?056p09bdyvzv7lu

All you have to do is open the Pinball game, start a new game, type in "hidden test" (without quotes), and that's that! You can control the ball with your mouse!

Also, when you are in the CH34T3R mode, you can press the H key to make the high score table show and give you a trillion points.

I might do a tut of how to change a password without needing to know the current one next... until then, bye!

Boycott the Salvation Army Holiday Bell Ringers

Please don't give your change to the Salvation Army bell ringers...

The Bilerico Project reminds us that the Salvation Army is anti-Gay.

That's right, complete bigotry... intolerance, and discrimination... reports the activist blogger in his annual post.

Sez Bil Browning:

The Salvation Army has a history of active discrimination against gays and lesbians. While you might think you're helping the hungry and homeless by dropping a few dollars in the bright red buckets, not everyone can share in the donations. Many LGBT people are rejected by the evangelical church charity because they're "sexually impure."

The church claims it holds "a positive view of human sexuality," but then clarifies that "sexual intimacy is understood as a gift of God to be enjoyed within the context of heterosexual marriage." The Salvation Army doesn't believe that gays and lesbians should ever know the intimacy of any loving relationship, instead teaching that "Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life."

Shame

Saw Shame this weekend.

Still deciding what I thought about it...

It's a respectable movie to be sure. And there is already Oscar buzz.

Director Steve McQueen maintains a cool style.

Story line didn't provide many surprises. I pretty much knew where we were headed with this...

The whole cast of Shame was brilliant.

Authentic New York City location shots are ALWAYS appreciated.

Michael Fassbender is amazing...

Carey Mulligan's New York, New York rendition is a keeper.

Kandinsky at the Guggenheim

If you're a purist who found the Cattelan exhibition to be hollow and garish...

Then be sure to check out the side galleries there at the Guggenheim.

My favorite show there?

Kandinsky's Painting with White Border

Vasily Kandinsky’s canvas, Painting with White Border (Bild mit weissem Rand, May 1913) was inspired by a trip the artist took to Moscow in fall 1912. Upon his return to Munich, where he had been living intermittently since 1896, Kandinsky searched for a way to visually record the “extremely powerful impressions” of his native Russia that lingered in his memory. Over a period of five months, he explored various motifs and compositions in study after study, moving freely between pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, and oil. After he produced at least 16 studies, Kandinsky finally arrived at the pictorial solution to the painting: the white border. In his seminal 1911 treatise Über das Geistige in der Kunst. Insbesondere in der Malerei (On the Spiritual in Art: And Painting in Particular), Kandinsky wrote that the color white expresses a “harmony of silence . . . pregnant with possibilities.”

This focused exhibition, co-organized with the Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C., brings the Guggenheim’s final version of the painting from May 1913 together with twelve related drawings and watercolors and one major oil sketch, and features the results of an extensive conservation study of the Guggenheim and Phillips paintings. The study unearthed a previously unknown landscape painting beneath the surface of the Phillips’s Sketch I for Painting with White Border (Moscow) (Skizze für Bild mit weissem Rand [Moskau], 1913). A rare glimpse into Kandinsky’s creative process, Kandinsky’s Painting with White Border reveals the gradual and deliberate way the artist sought to translate his ideas into a bold new language of abstraction.

Domus Launch Party

Today saw the launch of the new Domus showroom at 50 Great Sutton Street in Clerkenwell, London. Working closely with Sam Frith and David Kong I co-curated the art exhibition side of the venue's launch. Domus has gone for an industrial and relaxed look but clearly haven't tried to fill every nook and cranny of their new space with their products, so the artwork that is on display doesn't look boxed in. Although not an art gallery, Domus Clerkenwell has a planned programme of integrated art exhibitions and the artwork currently on show is by Julian Wild, Gary Martin and myself. One of Julian's 'System' sculptures (a sphere made from copper pipes) is situated above and to the right of the fire place in the outside court yard, whilst Gary's 'Sink and Swim' sculptures that look like inflated arm bands can be found downstairs, aptly placed upon Domus' corner section of a swimming pool.

As Domus' main clients are architects, my 'And When I'm a Man' sculpture seemed the most fitting piece to show since it closely mirrors the preiser figures (some of which I noticed were used to decorate this year's Domus Christmas tree) that populate many an architectural model. And to coincide with the launch my sculpture also got a bit of a make-over. Over the years the piece had suffered a couple of knocks whilst in storage so now felt like the right time to sand it down, strengthen the joints, re-fill them and then give it a shiny new re-spray.

One of the many nice touches at today's launch was the group of waiters and waitresses that caught everyone off guard when they unexpectedly burst into song. They all had amazing operatic voices and the acoustics of the space seemed pretty darn good too.
