Making assumptions
1. There are 36 pupils in a class. Each girl is given 8 books and each boy is given 3 books. The total number of books the girsl receive is 46 more than the total number of books the boys receive. How many girls are there in the class?
2. On Tree Planting day, 40 pupils planted some trees. Each boy planted 3 trees
and each girl planted 2 trees. The boys planted 30 more trees than the girls.

3. 60 children took part in a Street Soccer Competition. If each girl scored 3
goals and each boy scored 2 goals and the girls scored 20 more goals than the
boys, how many girls were there?
4. Mrs Lee had some sweets to give away to her 50 pupils. Each boy received 5
sweets and each girl received 3 sweets. The boys received 90 more sweets
than the girls. How many boys were there?
