New Prints Coming Soon

In the next few weeks I'll be bringing out a limited edition box set of nine screen prints in collaboration with the very talented and hard working street artist (I'm still not sure if he likes being referred to as a street artist but what the hell - it's a tag that he keeps getting stuck with), Mister Remi Rough. The plan is that each box will contain four, nine by nine inch, signed and numbered screen prints designed by myself, four designed by Remi and a ninth one by the both of us. We have also talked about the possibility of producing a very limited edition version (of five boxes) where each box contains an additional four original works - maybe paintings or drawings.

In the meantime here's some info on three screen print designs that I still have available for purchase.

These hand-pulled, screen prints are in a limited edition of 50 - a much smaller edition than my Spidey Pods prints and each one is signed, titled, dated and editioned. I have cropped the prints down from the 70 x 50 cm paper, on which they were printed, to 60 x 45 cm as this size works best with the image. However, I have keep a couple back, un-cropped, just in case anyone would like to frame them in a larger frame with a wide mount. I know that Ikea do a nice 70 x 50 cm plain black or white wood frame, with a mount, for about £20 but I’ve not tried a print in one of these frames yet so can’t comment on how they look.

If you would like to get your hands on one of the black and white Swirly Skull prints at my special, commission-free price (usually 30-50% less than in shops and galleries) feel free to get in touch. However, for those of you who love skulls but also like a little bit of colour - here’s my 2 colour, ‘Swirly Skulls on Pink’ screen prints. They come in a strictly limited edition of 50 and each print is signed, titled, editioned and dated. The paper dimensions are 70 x 50 cm (larger than the new, single colour, ‘Swirly Skulls’ prints which are 60 x 45 cm). And as with the black and white Swirly Skull prints, these are also available for a super low, commission-free price (£60 each if bought directly from my good self). But if you fancy something with even more colour then how about one of my Spidey Pods prints? The most famous person, so far, to own one of these prints is the actor Andrew Garfield, who will be playing Peter Parker/Spiderman in the new Spiderman movie. Now if that’s not a good endorsement I don’t know what is.

The prints are all hand pulled, 3 colour, screen prints on acid-free, archival paper. The paper size is 58.6 cm x 54.2 cm (image 38.7 x 39.4 cm). Every print is signed and numbered (being from a maximum edition of 300). New Prints at Beyond the Valley

I’m pleased to announce that my latest screen prints, ‘Swirly Skulls’ and ‘Swirly Skulls on Pink’ (my particular favourite) are now available at the very fabulous Beyond the Valley concept store located at 2 Newburgh street, London W1F 7RD - off Carnaby Street.

Since its launch five years ago Beyond the Valley has gone from being a springboard for designers to one of London’s leading destinations for fashion and innovation. As well collaborating with up and coming artists and designers the store and label showcase products by well respected brands and this year’s names include Vivienne Westwood, Aveda, Nokia and Aston Martin. Beyond the Valley has been voted one of the top 100 Coolbrands of 2007/08/09 and 2010.

As well as ‘Swirly Skulls on Pink’ (above) and ‘Swirly Skulls’ (the black on white version) the store also stocks my older and more recognised screen print, Spidey Pods. Unfortunately the image above doesn't totally do the work justice. If you call into the shop and check out the print you'll see that the pink is much more vibrant in the flesh (or on paper rather).

So if you are in the vicinity of Carnaby Street then I thoroughly recommend you to pop into this lovely little store. Every time I nip in there I always find something new and peculiar that I want – which is why I have to restrict my visits.

I've been a bit remiss on the old salesman front lately so I thought it about time that I gave the Spidey Pods prints another mention. So here's the details -

Each print is a signed and numbered, limited edition 3 colour silk screen print on high grade, archival paper. Dimensions: 58 x 54 cm. Price: £100 unframed, although I do have a small number for sale, mounted in custom made, white, box frames for £150 (cost price for the frame). These framed prints can be collect direct from my Bethnal Green, London studio or delivered directly to London addresses. Anywhere outside of London and I can't guarantee that the picture glass will arrive intact so sorry but only unframed prints can be sent to these areas.

Very Limited Edition £20 Print

This is my contribution to the 'edition / power in numbers' show which is a screen-printing exhibition featuring the work of 40 artists. It is being curated and organised by Fred Higginson (Print Club London) and James Hurst (Cure Studio). The image is taken from one of my sketch books and is the original drawing that led to my recent edition of 3 colour Spidey Pods prints.
The exhibition includes work by artists from Pakistan, Germany, Isreal, France, Norway and the UK. It is a mixture of established and emerging artists. All of the work will be an edition of 50 - all of it will be one colour and all of it will have been hand pulled by either Fred or James.
All of the prints will be 50cm x 50cm and cost £20. Once a print has sold out, it has gone. There will be a cash only store at the gallery so if you're interested remember to bring cash, not cards.
The exhibition will take place from Thursday 7th (opening night) – Sunday 23rd May at the Bodhi Art Gallery, Brick Lane. The gallery is split across two floors with a cafe and bar area, and is situated in the heart of East London.
Throughout the life of the show there will be a shop based at the gallery selling copies of the work, an eclectic series of talks and events based around the theme power in numbers and a screenprint bed that will be used for live printing demonstrations and workshops.
Once the gallery show has closed we will continue to sell the prints at Bodhi Art Gallery, on the Print Monger market stall, online and at future events.

Pressy for President Obama

Since finding out that Barack Obama is a Spidey fan (Check him out on the front cover of the new issue (no. 583) of The Amazing Spider-Man comic) I thought that I'd send him one of my Spidey Pods prints as a welcom to office gift. I think it'll look good on the walls of the Oval Office, don't you?
After two terms with a super villain in power, let’s hope there will now be two terms of a super hero (fingers crossed).
As Spider-Man already knows, and President Obama is soon to find out, ‘with great power comes great responsibility’.

Obama was quoted last year in Entertainment Weekly as saying: “The guys who have too many powers, like Superman, that always made me think they weren't really earning their superhero status. It's a little too easy. Whereas Spider-Man and Batman, they have some inner turmoil. They get knocked around a little bit.”
