Last Night's friday Late View
Last night’s game of Two’s a Pair at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s ‘Friday Late View’ went well. Everyone who took part seemed to have a good time and happily walked away with a piece of original artwork at the end of it.

HANDS ON PREVIEW ATELIER RORONA PS3

After playing about one third of the game I can gladly say that I'm impressed. The game is highly addictive. They built up the "Alchemy" system nicely. They’ve made it more accessible and fun. I lost track of time while crafting items to complete quests and assignments but as a result of spending extra time crafting all those extra items I received money from the quests and a good rating on the assignments.
The combat you will experience in Atelier Rorona is also very refined. It's quick, yet simple. You have a party of up to 3 members, 1 being Rorona and 2 of her friends. There is a fee for having some of her friends help you, but it’s usually very minor in cost. The varieties of friends that can help Rorona are also very unique. Each has their own skills that follow the characters personal traits. The voice acting is also quite good and helps show and express each characters personality. As a bonus the visuals are too die for.
The crisp art style and the beautifully hand drawn character portraits and event scenes are nice touches to this wonderful game. The "Alchemy" system has also been tweaked to make crafting more enjoyable. Now there are categories per item used for alchemy. For example, many items have been filed under multiple categories, anywhere from supplements to plants to ores or even oil. That one feature allows you to be able to make the same item many different ways, instead of needing just a pre-set bunch of ingredients.
As for the lasting appeal of Atelier Rorona, there are multiple endings to unlock and I personally would love to see them all. I can gladly say that Atelier Rorona is a great addition to Atelier series. For all of you who have enjoyed the series so far this is a great addition that will keep you coming back for more. The games official release date is Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in North America and Friday October 22, 2010 in Europe. I know this game will be a wonderful addition to anyone’s personal game collection.

But get there early as they plan to allocate tickets to who ever wants to play and it’s a first come, first served deal. In this game of memory, plays will have to turn over and try and match two identical cards from a selection of over a hundred giant cards – all designed by “leading international artists” (not my words, I promise). And if you manage to match up a pair then you get to take home one of the cards home with you - for free, gratis, nothing, nowt…

Open Studio - Today and Tomorrow
It was great to see so many new and familiar faces at today's open studio event. The turn out was fantastic and there seemed to be a never ending procession of people popping through my door - although that could have had something to do with the fact that my studio was next to the free food (which was delicious by the way) and drink table. Lateness: two stories and a link
I tend to have a lot of people show up late for their appointments. For example, I had one person who I scheduled for 9:00 (I had sent him email reminders of this twice). When he didn't show up by 10:00, I called him and he said he would be there in an hour (a grand total of 2 hrs late!). I said that wouldn't work because I had another appointment at noon and he would run into that if he came it at 11:00. I scheduled him for 1:00 and made sure he knew everything he needed to bring with him.
He then arrived at 11:00 regardless and without everything that he was supposed to have with him.
I had another person the other day who said they were going to leave right away to come directly over from where they were. It was 4:00 and they said they would be there "no later than 4:30". I had given up on them when they showed up at 4:50.
Anyhow, you can see why I might appreciate this post titled: "You are not 'running late' you are rude and selfish". [edit: the link is apparently very popular on the net and may be slow to load]

Fun, Games and Free Art!
As part of this month’s ‘Friday Late View’ the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London have asked various artists and illustrators to each produce two identical over-sized playing cards for a game of Two’s a Pair. I think the idea is that members of the public are given the opportunity to play the game and then get to keep a card if they can match it to its pair. As one of the artists selected to take part in the event I’ve decided to produce blown-up versions of one of my latest doodles, ‘Gimp’. I’ll do one in black and one in red – in keeping with the normal colours you find in suits of cards.

Arkham Horror is one of my favorite games [as you may know]. This is what players' characters look like: cardboard guys on plastic stands.
Well now the folks over at Fantasy Flight Games are offering to let you replace your investigators with little miniatures like these. How much? 4 bucks per guy. People at GenCon were buying complete sets of all of the investigators. Arkham Horror has 48 investigators which means they sank $192 into little guys that don't add any new content to the game other than giving you something cool to look at. The base game is only $40 on Amazon. You could buy 4 friends a copy of the game and buy them dinner instead.
I tell you, give people the opportunity to show how much they love something by buying it all over again and people will do it.

People at GenCon were buying complete sets of all of the investigators. Arkham Horror has 48 investigators which means they sank $192 into little guys that don't add any new content to the game other than giving you something cool to look at. The base game is only $40 on Amazon. You could buy 4 friends a copy of the game and buy them dinner instead.I tell you, give people the opportunity to show how much they love something by buying it all over again and people will do it.

Drawings of Nothing
I’ve just uploaded 24 new doodles, drawings, cartoons and scribbles. Doodling seems to have become part of my bed-time ritual lately. Most nights, just before I head off to sleep I try and force myself to jot down a few drawings. Sometimes I really get into it and am pleased with the rests, while other times I’m either not in the mood or just too tired and end up with something pretty awful. ‘Amorphous 4’ (above) is the fourth in a series of drawings which are the products of trying to draw things that don’t look like anything in particular. This might sound easy but once you start sketching random forms it gets harder not to let parts of the drawing look like something already existing – you’ll start to notice an eye, an elbow or something finger-like beginning to appear here and there.
